NY/NJ foundation begins 28th annual campaign to give away 15,000 pounds of turkey
Free Turkeys Korean American Foundation, a non-profit effort in New York and New Jersey, has begun its 28th annual campaign.
The goal is to raise enough money to give away 15,000 pounds of turkey — that’s roughly 3,000 turkeys at about $10 each.
“It’s true that donations have dwindled since the economy worsened, but the Korean American community’s compassion for others hasn’t,” said Jeon Sang-bok, foundation president. “It’s difficult to raise money, but we experience the miracle of going over our goal every year.”
The foundation has given free turkeys to about 250 soup-kitchen facilities in New York and New Jersey for 27 years.
A fundraising campaign will open on Broad Avenue in Palisades Park, N.J., from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 1. Those who wish to volunteer should gather in front of Rodeo Plaza by 1 p.m., the foundation said.
The foundation’s effort is sponsored by The Korea Times New York.
