Park Chan-ho to receive Ilgoo grand prize
Park Chan-ho, former pitcher for the Hanhwa Eagles and Korea’s first U.S. major leaguer, was selected as the recipient of the “Ilgoo” grand prize for his contribution to youth baseball.
The Ilgoo Club, an association of retired professional baseball players, will confer the award on Park at the Riviera Hotel Seoul on Dec. 9.
Park retired last year, and has since been working for the development of youth baseball.
The best batter award will go to reigning MVP Park Byung-ho and the best pitcher award to right-hander Sohn Seung-rak, both of Nexen Heroes.
Doosan Bears’ Yoo Hui-kwan will receive the rookie of the year award.
The leadership award will be conferred on LG Twins coach Cha Myung-suk and LA Dodgers’ lefthander Ryu Hyun-jin will receive the special award of achievement.
