Philly Koreans to put on 500th-day anniversary Sewol memorial event
By The Korea Times Philadelphia staff
A Korean American Philadelphia group supporting the families of the Sewol ferry sinking, SESAMO, will hold a 500th-day anniversary memorial event Saturday.
“There are still people missing, the recovery process has all been talk, and although eight months have passed since the special Sewol laws were written, actual investigation has yet to begin,” the group said.
The discussion-based event will invite prominent local leaders and community members.
On April 16 last year, the Sewol, a passenger ferry, sank off the coast of Jindo Island, killing more than 300 people, many of them high school students on their way to a field trip.
The memorial event will be held at 6:30 p.m. inside Ambler Mennonite Church, located at 90 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave, Ambler, PA 19002. Call 484-557-0531 for more information.
