Police arrest armed assailant at NPAD Chairman Moon Jae-in’s district office
Police arrested an armed assailant Wednesday morning after he went on a rampage at the district office of Chairman Moon Jae-in of the New Politics Alliance for Democracy (NPAD).
The man in his 60s was taken into custody an hour after he entered the office located in Sasang-gu in Busan at around 9:10 a.m. and took an employee hostage with a sharp implement.
The man then taped up Moon’s assistant surnamed Choi, poured paint thinner on the floor and threw a fire extinguisher out of a window.
He demanded that the police “call reporters” and also hung a placard that read “Imprison Moon Jae-in.”
The man voluntarily exited the building an hour later and was taken to Sasang Police Station. Officers investigating the incident are now attempting to determine the man’s motives.
