Rockies’ Oh Seung-hwan extends scoreless streak to 6 games
SEOUL, Sept. 28 (Yonhap) — Colorado Rockies’ South Korean reliever Oh Seung-hwan has extended his scoreless streak to six games while helping the team to its seventh consecutive victory.
Oh held the Philadelphia Phillies without a run in the top of the seventh inning in the Rockies’ 5-3 victory at Coors Field in Denver on Thursday (local time). Oh, who only gave up a two-out single to Justin Bour, lowered his ERA from 2.69 to 2.65 and picked up his 21st hold of the season.
Oh hasn’t allowed an earned run since giving up three against the San Francisco Giants on Sept. 3.
The right-hander took the mound in the seventh with the Rockies leading 3-1. He struck out Pedro Florimon swinging on a 2-2 fastball, and got Cesar Hernandez to ground out to shortstop.
Following Bour’s single, Roman Quinn went down swinging on a changeup.
At 89-70, the Rockies now lead the Los Angeles Dodgers by a game atop the National League West. They can clinch a postseason berth with a win over the Washington Nationals and a St. Louis Cardinals loss to the Chicago Cubs on Friday.
Oh, a longtime closer in South Korea and Japan competing in his third major league season, has never been to the postseason in the bigs.
