Ryu Hyun-jin gets the nod for Dodgers’ U.S. opener Sunday
March 29, 2014
By Lee Kyutae
Ryu Hyun-jin, already with a win under his belt this season, will pitch the Dodgers’ U.S. opener Sunday night in San Diego.
The 27-year old Korean left-hander threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on Friday and reported no pain. He was questionable after tearing a toenail in his first start, last weekend in Australia.
Ace Clayton Kershaw was scratched because of back pain, and with Zack Greinke not quite ready, Ryu got the honor.
The Dodgers are off Monday, Greinke will go Tuesday, and Dan Haren will pitch Wednesday.
If Kershaw needs more time, Ryu could also pitch the home opener.
