Ryu misses workouts for second day, no structural damage
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin was reportedly in good condition Friday after being held out of workouts for two days because of stiffness in the middle of his back.
ESPN reported that Ryu, 27, had a scan on Wednesday that showed no structural damage.
Manager Don Mattingly said he hoped Ryu would not miss too much camp to delay the start of his season.
“I’ve had enough back stuff to know it can feel bad today, you wake up tomorrow and, all of a sudden, you’re back,” Mattingly said. “At this point, I don’t think any of us are worried about the timetable. If it were to linger and go on and on, then obviously it would start to mess with his schedule.”
The lefty, who posted 14 wins and 7 losses with 3.38 ERA (earned run average) last season, had complained of back pain during a bullpen session at the Camelback Ranch Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Wednesday and missed team workouts the following day.
