Ryu to start No. 2
Dodgers to send out Kershaw and Ryu in Australia openers
By Lee Kyutae
Ryu Hyun-jin will start the season as the No. 2 man in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting pitching rotation for the second straight year.
The 26-year old Korean pitcher’s first starting assignment will not be in the United States but in Australia.
Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly made official Sunday what had been suspected for some time: left-handers Clayton Kershaw and Ryu Hyun-Jin are set to start the team’s season-opening games against the Arizona Diamondbacks at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia.
The first game is scheduled to start at 1 a.m. PST on Saturday, March 22, and the second game with Ryu on the mound will be played on the same day, at 7 p.m. PST.
Kershaw and Ryu are expected to face Patrick Corbin (14-8, ERA 3.41) and Trevor Cahill (8-10, 3.99), respectively.
