S. Korea confirms 13 MERS deaths
Thirteen people have been confirmed dead from the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in South Korea, Yonhap reported.
Officials announced Friday the deaths of MERS patient No. 23, 73, and No. 24, 78. Both were diagnosed with MERS after making contact with a confirmed patient inside Konyang University Hospital.
Patient No. 23, who was confirmed with MERS June 1, was originally admitted for chronic obstrusive pulmonary disease and asthma before coming into contact with patient No. 16 inside the same hospital room.
No. 24, who suffered from asthma and high blood pressure, was also confirmed with MERS June 1.
Both were being treated inside Chungnam National University Hospital before their deaths.
Korea saw another death of a MERS patient Friday, a 72-year-old woman.
Meanwhile, 126 people have been diagnosed with the syndrome as of Friday.
According to Yonhap, 3,680 were in isolation Friday, with 1,249 released.
