Samsung rolls out USB flash drive for mobile devices
SEOUL (Yonhap) — South Korea’s top tech firm, Samsung Electronics Co., said Tuesday it has rolled out USB flash drives for devices such as laptops and smartphones, to tap deeper into the data storage market.
The standard type of premium USB flash drive comes with three different capacities — 16, 32, and 64GB. They are 4 centimeters long and weigh only 9 grams, the company said.
The premium 64GB USB flash drive boasts a data read speed of 130MB per second, while its write speed stands at 45MB per second.
It also comes with a durable body that is able to remain intact in 1-meter-deep seawater for 72 hours, and go through airports’ X-ray inspections with no damage.
The FIT edition of the model, targeted for slim-sized laptops, comes with two different versions — 32 and 64GB, a smaller body than the standard-sized premium USB flash drive.
The so-called DUO edition also comes with 32 and 64GB capacities, and is able to directly connect to smartphones or tablet PCs. Its data read speed stays at 15MB per second on smartphones.
Samsung said the release of the three USB flash drive models completes its data storage products lineup, as it has already released the world’s first portable solid state drive (SSD) and high-capacity memory cards.
