San Francisco celebrates Korean Foundation Day
San Francisco held a flag hoisting ceremony to celebrate Korea’s Foundation Day and its friendly relationship with the country at its city hall Thursday.
The event saw San Francisco Mayor’s Office of International Trade and Commerce Director Mark Chandler handing a certificate of friendship between the city and Korea to San Francisco Consulate General Han Dong-man.
“Through this ceremony, the cultural exchange and understanding between San Francisco and Seoul strengthened,” said Choi Hae-gun, head of the San Francisco-Seoul Sister City Committee.
The two cities, as well as the Korean American Hotel Association in Northern California and Korea Tourism Organization, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support cooperation in developing cultural and tourism exchange.
Overseen by the committee and the mayor’s office, the event was attended by city officials and students from Claire Lilienthal Elementary School.
