SF sports association launches free community events
By The Korea Times San Francisco staff
About 60 people came out for bowling fun Saturday with a San Francisco-based Korean American sports association, which has launched a series of free lifestyle events.
“This all started with the well-being of locals in mind,” said Cho Hyun-jin, president of a local bowling society. He plans to open a bowling competition in December.
“We want to lead the Korean American community in participating in healthy activities,” said Park Yang-gyu, president of the sports association.
Choi Bong-rak, 48, a local resident who showed up with his 13-year-old son Choi Han-seok, said he rarely gets a chance to go bowling with his son.
“Instead of being home, being out here with my son, his friend and my friends to chat and bowl for free makes me really happy,” he said. “I hope opportunities like this come more frequently.”
The second in the series of free events, planned for next month, will invite community members to join in on rounds of badminton, according to the association.
