Sistar tops Chinese weekly K-pop charts with record-high rating 2016/06/29 10:24
SEOUL, June 29 (Yonhap) — South Korean girl group Sistar topped the weekly K-pop chart of China’s largest video sharing platform with a record-high user rating, the group’s management agency said on Wednesday.
“I Like That,” the lead single of the quartet’s latest EP “Insane Love,” ranked No. 1 in the weekly K-pop chart of Yinyuetai, commonly dubbed the Chinese version of Youtube, according to Starship Entertainment. Released on June 21, the song won 98.64 points from Yinyuetai users, a record-high score for the weekly K-pop chart winners, the agency said, citing Yinyuetai data collected during the June 20-26 period.
During the same period, the dance pop song also topped the K-pop weekly chart in QQ Music, the largest music streaming and downloading service provider in the communist country.
“We are grateful that Sistar’s new song has gained much popularity in both South Korea and China, despite the group’s almost year-long hiatus,” Starship Entertainment said in a press release.
The agency introduced “I Like That” and its music video as works of “neo-orientalism,” blending ancient Chinese-style settings with modern romanticism.
The song was composed by hit songwriter Black-Eyed Pilseung, who also worked on Sistar’s previous summer hit song from two years ago “Touch My Body.”
