‘Slim fit’ school uniform ad lands JYP in hot water
By Bahk Eun-ji
JYP Entertainment president Jin-young Park is under heavy criticism over school uniform ads.
Park, 43, and his new K-pop girl band TWICE appeared as models for the Skoolooks brand posters, and they are accused of encouraging young girls to go on extreme diets to look like those celebrities.
Their slogan reads “Let’s get it on with slim fit,” and the girl band members show off their curves wearing tight uniforms called ”Corset Jacket” and “Shading Skirt.”
The controversy ignited when a web user, “Weji Seonsaeng (Weji teacher),” wrote that the ads unrealistically encourage teenage students to go on extreme diets because it focused on the girl group members’ body shapes.
“Why do students have to wear a corset-like jacket?” he asked. “Why do they have to wear a tight ‘Shading Skirt’?”
With criticism mounting, JYP and the Skoolooks agreed to overhaul the ad campaign.
