Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-gyo make surprise marriage announcement

SEOUL, July 5 (Yonhap) — Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-gyo, stars of the 2016 hit drama “Descendants of the Sun,” announced Wednesday they are getting married in October.

“Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-gyo plan to marry on Oct. 31,” said Blossom Entertainment and UAA, the companies representing the two stars.

The early morning announcement came as a surprise to many, as the two have flatly denied news reports that they were dating.

“The situation demanded caution as marriage is a joining of not just two people but of two families,” the companies said.

The two stars played a soldier-doctor couple in the hit 2016 KBS 2TV series set in the fictional war-torn country of Uruk. Rumors of the two dating first surfaced last year when an anonymous Internet user claimed to have spotted them shopping and dining together in New York.
