South Korean comedians establish new agency following embezzlement scandal
A group of prominent South Korean comedians that found themselves without an agency after an embezzling scandal have set up a new company under the direction of comedian Kim Dae-hee, Yonhap reported.
CoKo Entertainment, which shut down its doors Saturday, was headed by co-CEOs Kim Woo-jong and comedian Kim Jun-ho.
Kim Woo-jong allegedly embezzled millions of dollars from the company and fled overseas.
The agency managed about 40 comedians, among them big-name talents Lee Kuk-joo, Kim Dae-hee, Kim Joon-hyun and Kim Ji-min.
The same group of talents will come together under JD Bros, the newly established agency.
“I’m thankful to our comedians for patiently waiting during a difficult time,” Kim Dae-hee said. “Because I know how difficult it can be to carry out activities without an agency, we all got together and made a small company that is ours.”
JD Bros, along with Kim Dae-hee and Kim Jun-ho, announced they would compensate out-of-pocket some of the talents’ unpaid fees that resulted from the CoKo scandal.
