SV Korean American community services honors volunteers
By The Korea Times San Francisco staff
Korean American Community Services of Silicon Valley held its annual sponsorship dinner last Friday.
About 200 volunteers and community leaders attended the dinner.
Ha Byung-yoon, leader of the service’s Korean music choir, received the Member of the Year honor. Other recipients were Choi Mi-soon, winner of the volunteer award, and San Jose City Councilman Ash Kalra, for the friendship award.
KACS is a non-profit volunteer service that provides help to the local community, in particular seniors, the low-income population and recent immigrants.
“It feels like yesterday that we put together a Korean American community service organization, but it’s already been 36 years,” said Kim Hee-sik, KACS president. “As with our efforts for Korean Americans, the most important thing going forward is participation and interest.”
