Sweet Ryu-venge!
Ryu pitches Dodgers past Giants 2-1 to avoid sweep
Does not allow a run for the fourth time in five starts
By Lee Kyutae
Ryu Hyun-jin got his revenge. The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Korean left-hander completely shut down the only team to score against him this year to register his third win of the season.
Ryu had surrendered a career-high eight runs in a career-short two innings against the San Francisco Giants in the Dodgers’ home opener April 4, but in Thursday’s rematch, he snapped their three-game winning streak to return the favor.
Ryu (3-1) stretched his road scoreless streak to 26 innings, and the Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 2-1 to avoid a sweep. He struck out three and walked one on a season-high 112 pitches in seven innings.
Ryu has been nothing less than sensational this year. In five starts, he has allowed a run in only one game against the Giants. He has allowed only 19 hits in 28 innings, and his earned run average (ERA) is down to sparkling 1.93.
The Dodger (10-6) and the Giants (10-6) are now tied atop the National League West division.
