Thai Airways suspends unprofitable US flights
BANGKOK (AP) — Thailand’s beleaguered national airline will suspend flights to the U.S. as part of efforts to end years of losses.
Thai Airways President Jarumporn Chotikasathein says the airline is suspending the unprofitable four roundtrip flights per week from Bangkok to Los Angeles, as well as to Rome. Flights on profitable routes to London and Franfurt will be doubled.
Jarumporn said Monday that the flight schedule changes and other measures were being introduced to reduce the airline’s losses.
The state-owned carrier entered a rehabilitation plan this year after losses swelled in recent years.
It posted a net loss of 15.6 billion baht ($445 million) last year, or about 30 percent higher than 2013.
The schedule changes will take effect on October 25.
