Thai Lee leads the biggest woman-owned business in US
By The Korea Times New York staff
America’s biggest woman-owned business is led by Thai Lee, a 56-year-old Korean American, Forbes reported.
Lee, who heads Software House International, is reportedly one of 18 self-made female billionaires in the United States.
Her name is Thai because she was born in Thailand. According to Forbes, Lee — who was born in Bangkok — grew up in South Korea under the influence of her oft-traveling father, a Korean economist.
After moving to the U.S. as a teenager and eventually graduating from Harvard Business School, Lee purchased Software House, a struggling business, with her then-husband Leo Koguan in 1989 for less than $1 million.
Under Lee, it grew into one with $6 billion in revenue. She owns 60 percent of the company; Koguan owns the remaining 40 percent.
