Tottenham’s Son Heung-min scores 9th goal of season in last match of 2017
SEOUL, Dec. 26 (Yonhap) — Tottenham Hotspur’s South Korean attacker Son Heung-min has bagged one goal and two assists in his last match of 2017.
Son scored his team’s fourth second goal in the Spurs’ 5-2 win over Southampton in their English Premier League (EPL) match at Wembley Stadium in London on Tuesday. This was Son’s sixth Premier League goal and his ninth total in the 2017-18 season. He also has three goals in the UEFA Champions League.
Starting as a left winger in Mauricio Pochettino’s 4-2-3-1 system, Son collected two assists before putting his name on the scoring sheet. He first set up Harry Kane’s goal in the 39th minute with a fine cross for a 2-0 lead.
In the 49th, he gave a pass to Dele Alli who curled the ball into the net to make the score 3-0. It was also Son’s fifth assist of the season.
Son delivered Spurs’ fourth goal in the 51st on the counterattack. After receiving a through ball from Alli, the 25-year-old South Korean found the back of the net with his right foot in the box.
Son couldn’t play full time as he was replaced by Erik Lamela in the 77th minute.
Son’s teammate Kane did a hat trick with his goals in the 22nd, 39th and 67th. He also set a record for the most Premier League goals scored in a single year with his latest performance. The England striker has scored 39 goals in 2017, beating Alan Shearer’s record of 36 goals in 1995.
