UCLA professor Chang-jin Kim recipient of Ho-am Prize
Chang-jin Kim, a UCLA engineering professor, was selected as one of this year’s Ho-am Prize recipients.
Kim, 57, is “highly recognized in developing micofluidic MEMS based on the use of electrowetting phenomena,” the Ho-am Foundation said on its website.
The foundation is funded by Samsung. The prestigious award is given to five laureates each year in the science, engineering, medicine, the arts and community service categories. It is often referred to as the Nobel Prize of South Korea.
Other laureates this year are professor Jin-woo Cheon of Yonsei University, professor Sung-hoon Kim of Seoul National University, artist Sooja Kim and nurse Young-shim Baek.
The award ceremony will take place inside Hoam Art Hall in Seoul on June 1. The honor includes 300 million Korean won, about $265,000.
