Virginia haircut event to donate funds to elderly
By The Korea Times Washington DC staff
Ten hair stylists from a Fairfax, Virginia, hair salon, Le Mirage, spread goodwill this weekend by picking up their shears for charity.
Organized by a local Korean American foundation, the two-day event gives 50 percent of profit toward helping those with needs.
“Instead of only remembering to help the needy for special holidays like Christmas or Easter, I think it’s important to help in our everyday lives,” said Jung In-joon, a local priest who came out for a haircut.
Foundation President Yoo Hong-yeol said funds would go toward heating utilities during the winter for elderly living alone and homes with grandparents raising grandchildren in Gangwon Province, South Korea.
The charity event has raised $61,000 since its beginning in 2008.
