David Ryu faces Carolyn Ramsay in a bid to take the District 4 seat and become LA’s first-ever Korean American city councilman
By The Korea Times Los Angeles staff
Election day has arrived in Los Angeles.
Korean American city council candidate David Ryu, 39, faces Carolyn Ramsay, a former aide to Councilman Tom LaBonge, in a bid to take the District 4 seat and an achievement as the city’s first-ever Korean American city councilman.
He and his team have traveled across the city, from Koreatown to Los Feliz, Sherman Oaks and Melrose, to come out and vote.
Called a “City Hall outsider” by the Los Angeles Times Sunday, Ryu is expected to see significant support from the Korean American community.
According to the paper, only 16.4 percent of registered voters in the district came out for the primaries in March.
Ryu is a director at the Kedren Acute Psychiatric Hospital and Community Health Center and a former aide to a county supervisor; Ramsay is a former journalist who worked as a chief of staff in city council for about eight years.
Polls opened at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Visit lavote.net for more information.
