Voting booth kiosks installed in 10 languages, including Korean, for the first time
Volunteers needed for voting booths on June 3
In Los Angeles County, with the primary election only two weeks away, voting booth kiosks have been installed in 10 languages, including Korean, for the first time.
According to the L.A. County Registrar-Recorder, improvements in voting for non-English speakers include directions available in the 10 languages at a kiosk in each voting booth, as well as translated sample ballots.
In this election, all candidates will be chosen according to the number of votes received without party nominations. In addition, permanent residents are now also eligible to vote.
The registrar office said it is seeking volunteers for voting booths on June 3. Volunteers will have two-to-four-hour training the day before elections and receive up to $175 in compensation for working 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on June 3.
Currently needed are 2,555 volunteers, including 339 Korean speakers, said Efrain Escobedo, director at the Registrar-Recorder office.
Korean Americans running in the primary election include Michelle Park Steel, Young Kim, Sam Kang, Ann Park, Songhai Armstead and Helen Kim.
