WINNER’s Taehyun tentatively halts group activities, citing health problems
SEOUL, Oct. 12 (Yonhap) — Taehyun of South Korean boy band WINNER has suspended all of his group activities citing an aggravated mental condition, his agency said on Wednesday.
“Under unexpected circumstances, WINNER’s new EP release is being postponed indefinitely,” YG Entertainment said in a press release.
“WINNER member Nam Tae-hyun (Taehyun) has been suffering from psychological symptoms that he has had since his trainee period. His condition has greatly worsened in the past several months,” the entertainment agency added. Exactly when and why the idol singer began developing such symptoms are, however, under dispute.
The announcement comes some months after YG Entertainment met with Taehyun and his mother multiple times to discuss the matter. Deciding that Taehyun is unable to continue his group activities in WINNER, the agency suspended all of his engagements so that the singer can concentrate on his recovery.
YG apologized for the tardy notice, alleging that it wanted to wait and see if Taehyun could get well soon enough to return to his team in time.
Taehyun is staying with his mother to focus on his recovery.
“WINNER’s comeback date is still up in the air,” YG Entertainment said.
