A writer donated 1,000 books from his private collection to the Korean American Association of San Francisco earlier this month.
The donation from Choi Baek-san, 89, includes rare books and topics that range from literature and essays to Go manuals and film reviews.
The association is currently in the midst of reconstructing its library, President Thomas Kim said. It plans to fill bookshelves with 5,000 historically significant books by September with the help of the Korean American community, he said.
Choi is the author of an essay collection, “Duman River,” and in 2003 was the president of the Korean Writers Association USA.
