[WSJ] Youku to Ramp Up Joint Productions With Korean Filmmakers
[THE WALL STREET JOURNAL] BUSAN, South Korea— Youku Tudou Inc., one of China’s largest online video-service companies, aims to accelerate joint productions with South Korea filmmakers, Youku’s chief executive said.
Cultural affinity between China and South Korea makes Korean content well-placed for success in the Chinese market, Youku Tudou Chairman and Chief Executive Victor Koo said in an interview on the sidelines of the Busan film festival.
“The general trend is that Korean movies and movies with Chinese cooperation will be more important” in the future, said Mr. Koo.
The company has recently signed deals with CJ Entertainment, Lotte Entertainment and Showbox/Mediaplex, three of South Korea’s four main distributors, to stream Korean films on Youku and Tudou—the company’s two streaming sites, Mr. Koo said.
