23 years later, unsolved San Fernando Valley murder case may get reward renewal

On November 20, 1991, four members of a Korean American family were found killed by a sharp weapon in San Fernando Valley.

Twenty three years later, the killer is still on the loose.

The Los Angeles Police Department and a city councilman are out to solve the mystery once and for all — according to Councilman Mitch Englander’s office, a proposal to offer a $75,000 reward for information to put the case to rest was presented to the city council Wednesday.

The proposal will see through a hearing today. If approved, the reward will be effective for six months.

Englander’s office said the reward was requested by the LAPD, who felt leaving the case untouched would put the safety of the public at risk.

Yoo Hee-wan, 36, his wife, Yoo Kyung-jin, 34, and their two children, Pauline, 7, and Kenneth, 5, lived on Wish Avenue in Granada Hills.

Yoo Hee-wan worked at a dental lab in Koreatown. When he didn’t show up to work one morning, his relative went to his home see what was wrong, only to find the family dead inside.

More than 2,000 pages on the LAPD’s investigation into the case have since been recorded, with more than 150 suspects.
