Crossover to Heaven
The Korea Times and Radio Seoul (AM1650) Present Im Tae Kyung
Concert on Oct. 4th at Orpheum Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles
Tickets on Sale
The Korea Times and Radio Seoul (AM1650) will present the incomparable voice of Im Tae Kyung, an immensely popular Korean crossover tenor and musical actor, in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 4, at the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.
Im, 40, with his “Voice from Heaven” and considerable repertoire that ranges from classical music to musicals to pop songs, brought a capacity crowd to its feet and then to tears earlier this year at the Hollywood Bowl. His solo concert promises to be even more heartfelt and theatrical.
His Northern California show on September 29th did not disappoint and afterwards he said, “Since my studying days in Boston, I’ve always wanted to show my appreciation to all my fans who cheered and encouraged me, and I finally got to take the first step in that direction.”
One fan, identified as a third generation Japanese Ruth Koto, 67, said, “I fell in love with his singing after seeing him on one episode of ‘Immortal Songs,’ and his songs have not only become friends I get together with every night, but they console and heal.”
Im made his musical debut in 2005 in the Korean production “Sword of Fire” and went on to star in other musicals such as “Winter Sonata,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Romeo and Juliet,” and “Mozart.” But what propelled him to fame in Korea were his appearances on KBS-TV’s ‘Immortal Songs’ last year. His renditions of “Choryun,” “Apart,” “Nagne,” “Who’s Crying,” “Sae Taryung,” and “Blue Jean Girl” became instant hits.
