Korean American Scholarship Foundation’s Eastern chapter pays out $138,000 to 72 students

Seventy two students received a total of $138,000 from the Korean American Scholarship Foundation’s Eastern Regional Chapter at the 45th Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet Sunday.

The ceremony, held at Hilton McLean Tysons Corner, awarded 49 university students, three Chinese students of Korean descent, five descendants of Korean War veterans, three foundation interns and 12 high school students.

Students received scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000.

“The Korean American Scholarship Foundation has given more than $5 million to 5,000 students since its beginning in 1969,” said Kim Sang-hoon, foundation president. “The eastern regional chapter, in particular, holds meaning because this year’s amount is the largest in our history.”

The ceremony was attended by Washington D.C. Korean Consul General Kang Do-ho and Kang Sang-mo, an assistant professor at the University of California San Francisco.
