‘Love in the Moonlight’ tops TV chart again
SEOUL, Sept. 20 (Yonhap) — A period romance about a prince falling in love with a woman disguised as a eunuch regained the top spot on a TV popularity chart, data showed Tuesday.
The KBS 2TV series topped the Content Power Index (CPI) with 295.5 points for the second week of this month, dethroning its rival in the same time slot, “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.”
The index, developed by entertainment company CJ E&M and media ratings company Nielsen Korea, measures the popularity of TV shows based on the number of views of related news stories, keyword searches and mentions in social media.
The 18-episode series starring rising actors Park Bo-gum and Kim You-jung raked in 21.3 percent of viewers nationwide on Monday for its ninth episode, according to data from Nielson Korea. In South Korea, the figure is considered high for weekday series.
“Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo,” an SBS TV series starring top stars Lee Joon-gi and IU, came in second with 250.4 points.
In third place was MBC TV’s long-running variety show “Infinite Challenge” (241.6 points), followed by “W,” a Wednesday-Thursday sci-fi romance on the same channel that finished last week. It scored 235.9 points to hit fourth place.
The tvN drama “Drinking Solo” debuted at No. 5 with 234.4 points in its first week of run, while the KBS 2TV drama “Uncontrollably Fond” and MBC TV’s singing competition “King of Masked Singer” took sixth and seventh place, respectively, with 226.1 points and 224.2 points.
In eighth place was SBS TV’s one-month-old soap series “Jealousy Incarnate,” which garnered 223.3 points.
The romantic comedy, which revolves around the love triangle involving a weathercaster (played by Gong Hyo-jin), an anchor (Jo Jung-suk) and a scion of a fashion conglomerate (Go Kyung-pyo), rose six places on the chart from 14th in the previous week.
