NJ appoints its first-ever Korean American superintendent of schools

New Jersey will see its first-ever Korean American superintendent of schools come March 1, 2015.

According to NJ.com, June Chang, 34, was appointed the next superintendent of the Summit Public Schools by the Summit Board of Education on Nov. 19.

Chang, who will take over from Nathan Parker, works for Midland Park Public Schools in Bergen County, N.J., as director of curriculum, instruction and professional development.

He previously taught English literature and film studies at New Milford High School before moving on supervise Jersey City curriculums.

“The Board is confident that in Mr. Chang, it has found a leader who is forthright, well-versed in technology and extremely thoughtful about the needs of students who must compete in the global economy of the 21st century,” Board President Celia Colbert told NJ.com.

Chang graduated with Rutgers University with a bachelor’s in English and from St. Peter’s College with a master’s in education.
